We are excited to announce Camphill Wellbeing Trust's launch of COMPASS, a new project to transform the former Waldorf School site into a centre demonstrating practical solutions for healthy, sustainable lifestyles.
The site on Craigton Road, Cults, Aberdeen is owned by Camphill Estates and has been unoccupied since the closure of the Waldorf School in 2014. Keen not to lose the potential of this naturally beautiful & historic site, one of our partnership charities, Camphill Wellbeing Trust, are taking it on to host COMPASS, with plans to create inclusive spaces that serve and engage the local and wider community of Aberdeen City & Shire.
COMPASS is envisaged as a place where the ethos and practices successfully pioneered for those with learning disabilities by the North-East Camphill organisations will be translated to benefit all who want to improve their health, maintain their wellbeing or explore a more sustainable lifestyle.

Cairnlee House, CSA
"Cairnlee House is a residential care home for young adults aged 18-25. In 2016 Cairnlee House underwent a major refurbishment in order to bring it in line with modern standards. During the planning process we considered what would be the best use of investment in the building; a total rebuild or refurbishment. In consultation with residents and parents it was clear that the homely nature of Cairnlee House was highly valued and there was concern that a rebuilt may not be able to capture this. After considering all the options it was decided that the best use of the investment would be in a refurbishment. As planning got underway it was clear that the residential areas of the house would need the most attention. En-suite bathrooms were planned along with larger and brighter rooms. In the end the design for the refurbishment maintained many of the historical features at the front of the house, which are mostly common social spaces and completely updated the residential areas. For the refurbishment to take place we needed to vacate the building and we were very fortunate to be able to move just a few meters down the road to the old Simeon Care buildings. The residents at Cairnlee House were very involved with the move helping with taking furniture, crockery and bedding. Throughout the refurbishment the residents were close enough to witness the work the was going on. It was soon time to choose fixtures and fittings and colours. A great deal of work went into choosing taps for bathrooms, flooring and tile colours. When it was time to move back in the residents again were involved in helping to move and setting up their bedrooms. Many were please to see that the old charm and homeliness of the building had been maintained while at the same time there were many positive improvements that brought the building up to modern standards such as a sprinkler system, wider corridors and more accessible bathrooms. Cairnlee House is now much greener as it had triple glazing installed and lots of additional insulation which has meant the that building uses less energy to run. Since the refurbishment Cairnlee House has received much positive feedback from key stake holders and external agencies." - Martin Alfred -
